We love Pokémon in our family and this is my second run at a Pokémon birthday party, I will warn you now though, I did not get many good pictures so you will have to rely on my way with words a bit more with this particular inspiration post. This party happened shortly after the height of the Pokémon Go craze so it has a bit of a tilt towards that but also some of the TV shows as well. You can take these ideas and morph them to fit any of the various regions of the Pokémon world that your little trainer prefers.
It’s the Little Things
For this party we wanted to do a family party and friend party all in the same day so we needed to make things quick easy and fun for all. The picture above shows the “Trainer Lunches” that we packed for all the kiddos. Those who came just for the friend party took them to go, and the kids who stayed for the family party ate them between the two. There were also bananas available as they look like nanab berries from Pokémon Go. We packed simple sack lunches and put a Pokémon sticker on the front of each. We also set up several device stations so all the kids could take turns playing Pokémon Go. We used our own accounts and put on a lure so there were plenty of chances for each kid to catch as many as they wanted. Beyond this activity we had favors that included a binder, small packs of cards I found at the local dollar store, card holding sleeves, and some coloring sheets I found online for the kids to color.
Homemade Poffins For Dessert
B and I had several in-depth conversations about what his cake should be for his party. He wanted something that came from the games and would give people different options to pick from. We decided to go with the poffins from the Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum video games – the poffins in Pokémon go look a bit more like bread rolls so make sure you research the ones I mentioned specifically if you like the way ours turned out. I decided to make them into cupcakes as the game is a bit obtuse on what they are made out of. This allowed me to make several types of cupcakes and frostings and then top each with a decorative frosting and item to match the way they look in the game. I was really happy with the way they turned out and by using pre-made toppings and frostings, I cut my work time down significantly. The kids and adults all loved them and they really added to the feel of the party. I did not get a ton of themed party decorations so these were true centerpieces.
Little Trainers, Big Fun
While this was one of my simpler parties the kids and everyone else still had a blast. I sometimes fall into the trap of thinking I need to over-plan everything and have lots of moving parts for every party. But this party was a good reminder that simple activities and thoughtful planning really is all you need. I am not afraid to say that we were a little short on money at this point in our life, so I needed to come up with a lot of fun activities for not much cash. I bought a party pack on Amazon which came with a few decorative elements, used some things I already had on hand, and made sure to maximize all of the creative ideas I could find online for the party. This is a great tip for anyone who is struggling to make a birthday party work with limited resources, find what others have done and shared online. That’s part of why I started this blog, to help others come up with ideas that work for them when they need the extra help. I have skills and I want to share them and honestly, there are hundreds of us online cheering you on and wanting you to know we are here for you when you need the help!
Happy Birthday Trainer!
I know this post was a bit light on the details, but I hope you gleaned some ideas from my memories of this party. Everyone had a blast and I still think of those poffin cupcakes to this day! I know that B and his friends had a fun time and all the partygoers really liked everything we had to offer. And like I said, I learned a lot from this party and how to make parties in the future successful. Now, I am going to go off and play some Pokémon Go. Tell me, did you take any inspiration from this party? Let me know in the comments below!
