On our trip to Charles A. Lindbergh State Park in Little Falls, MN was not all we had hoped when we planned it in the early winter of 2019 due to just about everything being closed or cancelled due to COVID. The one saving grace that made this trip one of our favorite trips ever? Sanchez Burrito.
We had fun on this trip but it wasn’t nearly as exciting as our usual camping trips. Normally they are filled with hiking and naturalist classes and touring museums. The only thing I really could plan for us was eating out for one of the dinners this trip. We normally cook all of our meals and only eat out on our way to the campground on Friday night. Instead, this Saturday was spent driving around the town of Little Falls playing Pokémon Go from our car. Before we headed back to the campground we stopped by the restaurant, and we were in love!
For the Picky Eater
As you may be aware, W is a somewhat picky eater. He hasn’t always been, but lately he has given us a run for our money. The good news is, he loves cheese. We ordered a Mini Quesadilla Kids Meal for him and I was so impressed with all the choices the staff gave us. We picked chicken for his protein, white rice and black beans for his sides, they even made sure to ask us if we wanted it spicy or not. He loved it and actually ate about half of his food (we were in the take three bites pretty pretty please phase with him.) He said he really liked it and loved the cheese pull he got.
For the Adventurous Eater
B on the other hand is our cautious, yet, adventurous eater. He loves trying new things and finds he often likes them, but he needs a little push when it comes to committing to a new item. B has never been a big fan of Mexican food, but that all changed on this day. He went with the Mini Burrito Kids Meal, and B got to choose everything. We helped him make wise decisions, but he loved getting to pick all the ingredients and sauces. It was a breakthrough for him to see he could control the things he tried. As you can see from the picture, he was in love! He ate almost the entire thing and kept interrupting the conversation to tell us how much he loved his food. I loved that all of his sides and the entire meal was all wrapped up in the burrito, so we didn’t have to encourage him to try everything or finish his sides. Win!
Taster’s Choice
So I don’t post a lot of pictures of us actually eating, but we loved this meal so much, there weren’t many options… We stopped eating just long enough to take pictures of each other, but we didn’t stop eating when we weren’t holding the camera! Hubby and I decided to create our own taster’s choice meal because everything sounded amazing. So we ordered two of the 3 Taco Meals and had them build each one with a different meat. We tried the pollo, asada, barbacoa, chorizo, carnitas, and pastor. After chatting with the staff we decided on fairly basic toppings and hot sauce. For sides we tired both types of beans and the Mexican rice. Then, we added on a large bag of chips for the family. Hubby and I each ate half of each taco and then talked about what we liked or didn’t like in each. This made for a fun and delicious activity that felt like a mini date night (even with the kids sitting next to us!) The picture at the top of this blog is the set up we had between us, we did add some pepper sauce we bought at the local farmers market to go with our chips, but we didn’t add it to the tacos. We really enjoyed everything we tried, there were a few that weren’t our favorites, but nothing was bad, not by a long shot. The best meats were the chorizo and carnitas, they were flavorful and impactful, while some of the others were forgotten once the taco was gone, these stayed with us the whole trip. We had never had a lot of beans before this, but these ones were amazing! It was a bit of a fight to see who got to finish them, and really, all of the food that was left.
“Can We Go Back Before We Leave?”
Was this question asked multiple times Saturday night and Sunday? Yes, yes it was, and no, not all by me. We loved Sanchez Burrito and plan to go back when we are next in Little Falls. And possibly make a special trip there just to get more of their amazing tacos. Why should you go? The menu is approachable for every type of taste preference and style. They have awesome kid’s meal options and and at $4.75 each, it’s a great deal. You and the kids can truly build whatever type of meal you would like with their huge list of topping options. The food is made fresh and you can tell, when I tried to eat some of the left over chips a few days later, they were stale, which in my opinion, is the best mark of a fresh chip ever. The staff is amazing and happy to help you make the best choices possible, especially if you are not super familiar with the ingredients. So, have you been to Sanchez Burrito yet? Let me know what you think of them below.
